Broadband is of primary importance to Michigan’s economic success. At least 380,000 homes in Michigan lack access to broadband. This equates to 27% of households in the state with school-age children. The federal government is making available funds to states and organizations to make hi-speed internet more readily available to both rural and urban areas. As part of this effort, Michigan has created the “Michigan Hi-Speed Internet Office”. Other organizations are working with this new office to expand broadband access to all citizens through policy and funding, data and mapping, and education and resources. Panel experts for this forum are involved in closing the access gap.
Panelists:
- Eric Frederick – Director, Michigan Hi-Speed Internet Office, Department of Labor and Economic Growth
- Johannes Bauer – Director, Quello Center, Michigan State University
- Joe Sawasky - CEO, MERIT
